Today is Earth Day 2009, and what a great day for an eco car launch, the Peapod Car goes on sale today April 22, 2009. The Peapod is a product of Peapod Mobility, a spun-off division of Chrysler subsidiary GEM and forms part of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs).
The Peapod Car is ideal if you drive around in a packed city, but even better if you do short journeys to campus or other short trips. The small green vehicle will top 25MPH, which is the official speed limit for NEVs. GEM hope to use its 10 years experience in small electric vehicles to help with strong sales.
EcoGeek explains that the Peapod retails at $12,500 and comes with a host of cool computerized benefits, such as an option to use an Apple iPod to start the vehicle up with. Come on it does not get much cooler than that. Do your bit today and purchase the Peapod Car.

Why does an electric vehicle need starting? Shouldn’t it have on demand power?
Who wants to start a car with an iPOD? And 25MPH is too slow.
interesting. i want one but it was too expensive.
hy 25 is to slow when a lot of steets we drive on are 45 a lot of beeping in the cars future and why havent u car makers done a battery truck with a 3 cylinder motor to charge the batters under the bed it seems to me a pick up would be easier to put a load of batters under the bed some way and with a large enough charge in system that it would self charge as driving making it good for across cuntry driving now thats a vehicle a lot of people would in vest in and im one of them
the phone ignition makes sense, i’ve always thought they should switch over to phone credit cars, keys, etc.
I think this car is so cool you can start it with a Ipod and it is all electric,so it is a green car.
So, I’s have to pay for more than 3/4 of a normal car for this souped up golf cart. I’d have to pay to park it, insure it and register it just like a normal car and I’ll also need another car to be able to drive outside of my neighborhood. Its probably good that the speed and range are so small because when I lose my phone, I won’t be able to call for help or drive home. I’ll have to walk or take the bus home to get my spare keys (or is it a spare phone) and hope my car is still there. The good news is that the thief who stole my car can’t drive any farther than I can walk to catch up with him.
Hey Chrysler, Here’s an idea. How about taking all those kewl technological inovations they you’re stuffing into big SUVs and useless golf carts and make a reasonable small efficient commuter car. You guys seem to complete with Honda and Toyota by never actually competing with them.
