Palm Pre release could be a lost cause

As we know Palm are all set to launch the Pre, its latest smartphone and they as well as us have some high hopes for the handset. However, could the Palm Pre be a lost cause as Palm has made it on a list of 12 brands that is not expected to survive the year.
Palm seems to have all of its eggs in one basket with the Pre, as the company is facing some very hard times. Early reviews of the Pre shows that it is certainly a capable phone and the new webOS helps it along, but Electricpig says that business analysis site 24/7 Wall Street reckons that this will not be enough.
24/7 Wall Street states that Palm is on its list of 12 brands that will not make it to next year; the problem is that the Pre is a new product trying to squeeze into a market dominated my two main players.
It seems that it does not matter how good the Palm Pre is, it will not be enough to convince BlackBerry or iPhone users to jump ship.

Buzz about the Pre in online forums and twitter (search.twitter.com for “Palm Pre” for a day) speak otherwise, and mainstream consumers have yet to see significant marketing and news. Given the Pre’s feature set and now enthusiasm from the development community on WebOS as a platform (which very well could be the straw that broke the camel’s back), Palm is here to stay. Add that to Sprint’s comeback as a viable carrier making significant changes to customer service (they already have a reliable network infrastructure), the Pre has win written all over it.
I have Blackberry and while it is a good phone the BB OS is tired and in need of a good refreshing a la Pre style. For alot of IPhone users who secretly lust for a physical keyboard and a network carrier that doesnt drop calls (and yes I have AT&T and I am in NYC) the Pre will be a welcome relief.
I expect to see Palm continue to innovate and I am glad that the other mobile companies are taking note and looking to enhance the models they are bringing to market.
It amazes me that BlackBerry tops Palm. I would chose Palm every day over BlackBerry. I will not comment on the iPhone because I have no real hands-on experience with it. The demonstrations I have seen for the Pre appeared real and not mock-up as some sites have reported. I, for one, am very anxious to get a Pre into my grubby little hands.
