Apple’s iPod Touch and US soldiers
By: Peter Chubb | April 21, 2009 | 2 CommentsThe Apple iPhone has been working very hard to break into big business, but its little brother the iPod Touch already has a head start on the iPhone. According to The Apple Blog, the iPod Touch plays a huge part for U.S. soldiers working in Iraq.
The reason why soldiers are using this device is because it is so versatile, and has now started to replace or augment a number of soldier’s standard kit. The iPod Touch is also very cheap when you look at other hardware for the U.S. solider.
Apart from the cheap price of the Apple device, the iPod Touch is also lightweight and durable, two things that are important to the military. An Army official based in Baghdad has reportedly told Newsweek that opposing forces are yet to hack the Touch.
The U.S. soldier will find a number of apps for his iPod Touch that will be very useful to him while on tour, such as ballistics calculation, image recognition, networking/communication, surveillance, tactical mapping, translation and much more.
