Sony has confirmed that Patapon 2 on the PSP will be a digital-release only. There will be no UMD version at all, as Sony says those who buy the game from retail stores will just recieve the box with a voucher with a download code inside.
As reported by VG247, SCEA comms boss Patrick Seybold stated: “We’re considering a digital-only format for the Patapon 2 release as a one time test case as we continue to explore consumer preferences for digital content. “The downloadable game will be available on May 5th at both retail and via the PlayStation Store. We remain focused on providing superior games and entertainment experiences in both the UMD and digital formats and are working closely with our partners to deliver the best PSP line up in our history.”
So, further evidence of the shift towards digital distribution or even possible hints of Sony’s move towards a UMD-less PSP. Let us know your thoughts.
