Palm Pre release could bring long-term fans out of woodwork
By: Peter Chubb | April 14, 2009 | Leave a CommentPalm is bringing two new products to the table, the Pre and webOS, its new mobile operating system. The news of this could bring a number of long-time Palm fans out of the woodwork, where they will express their desire for legacy application support. This has to be great news for Palm, but they would also like to lure new customers as well.
The Washington Post have been looking closely at the CTIA09 event, where Palm and MotionApps were on hand to answer a number of calls about the announcement of a Classic PalmOS emulator for the Pre platform webOS.
It certainly seems strange that an application from years ago will not work with modern hardware, but it is a common obstacle of emulation. Turning something physical (hardware) into something that is virtual (emulation software) a huge amount of translation has to be done on the fly.
