New iPhone 3G and updated iPod Touch threaten NAND supply

Apple are up to something and we need to know what it is, you see they have just ordered a huge amount of NAND chips which now threaten the supply for other electronic companies. This latest move is consistent with the article that Daniel wrote that Apple were going to offer a new 3G iPhone and iPod Touch with 32GB of storage.

DigiTimes have reported that Apple has reportedly placed an order for 100 million 8GB NAND flash chips, most of them will be coming from Samsung. This is certain to cause a shortage in the supply of these memory chips, Nokia and Sony have also started to stock its supple of Nand chips, which makes supplies even more tight.

Come on Apple why don’t you just come out and tell us that you are working on a new Apple iPhone, there has to be some truth in all these rumors. If those rumors are true, then we know that the new iPhone will now have more storage capacity, better performance from the processor and graphics. There is also talk of an improved camera, I mentioned the other day that it could be a 3.2 megapixel.

We will just have to wait a few months to see if these rumors come to fruit.

If they launch in June as rumored, those of us who stood on line at 5AM last July 11 will not even get a year out of our Iphones before they are rendered obsolete by the latest edition.

Ira - I hardly think a new model will render yours “obsolete” as you seem to think.

    - unless you’re expecting it to suddenly stop working as it has …

Technology improves … If you want to stay on the bleeding edge then you need to make the sacrifices.

I don’t expect it to stop working.
I am usually “on the bleeding edge” as you put it, but I sort of expect to get at least a year out of something I buy before the next one that does more than mine comes out.
It’s all the more ironic in that my 3G Iphone developed a glitch and Apple swapped it out for a new one, so if I go for the new handset, I’ll be replacing a practically brand new handset.

I guess if I had been buying new Ipods every time a new edition came out, I’d be familiar with that feeling already.
