The Palm Pre, which is to be launched by Sprint, certainly has a number of obstacles to overcome, if they want to take on the might of the current smartphone dominators, Research In Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry handsets and the Apple iPhone 3G.
In a recent survey that had been researched by ChangeWave Research, they discussed the results of a smartphone survey, this gauged 4,292 cell phone owners, where it studied what it is they look for in a smartphone.
ChangeWave research director, Paul Carton said that the overall smartphone market was still strong, RIM came top as it holds 41 percent of market share, Apple holds 24 percent while Palm only hold 8 percent of the market share. You can read more on this in our Survey Findings: Apple (AAPL) and Research In Motion (RIMM) article.
The Palm Pre has a big battle ahead, but this is the first smartphone to run on the new WebOS operating system, which certainly looks promising, and runs much faster than what is used on the iPhone.
The Channel Wire goes into great detail of the uphill struggle that the Palm Pre faces, as it attempts to tries to topple the other touchscreen smartphone giants, the BlackBerry Storm and the Apple iPhone 3G.
