Intel’s 2GHz Atom Z550 processor

The Atom processor is now one year old, and as a celebration Intel have developed a new version to the popular CPU, the 2GHz Atom Z550. As the rumor has suggested, this new Atom packs more of a punch thanks to its impressive 2GHz speed, as well as Hyperthreading support.

The greatest feature of the new processor is the fact that it only uses three watts of power. The Intel Z550 also took the veil of the Z515; this model comes with Intel Burst Performance Technology. This extra burst of speed can improve things up to 1.2GHz.

We mentioned in an earlier post that Intel’s VP took to the stage and showed off the Moorestown MID platform. Although people have been excited about this news, I would not get over excited about the Moorestown demo, as Engadget said that it was a bit lame.
