General Electric (GE) and Intel Corp: Join for home health care products
By: Peter Chubb | April 8, 2009 | Leave a CommentThursday saw the joining of two big companies, as General Electric (GE) and Intel Corp (INTC) said that they would form an alliance to develop and market home-health care technologies. They hope to be able to bring this to the chronically ill and senior citizens.
This deal has come to surface in the wake of a new health plan from the Obama administration, where they hope to improve the efficiency as well as lower the cost of health care; this is the Obama administration’s major priority. One such idea that the administration has in mind is a system called “telemedicine,” this will allow doctors to diagnose and then treat a problem remotely. This is certainly an area where Intel will be offering some help in.
The Wall Street Journal reported that following a broad market rally GE’s shares recently improved on the news and were up 6.5% at $10.82, Intel’s were also up 3.1% to $15.50. Intel has now been working hard for a number of years to build up its new business in health care.
You can rest assured that having a company like Intel on board, they will make certain that some of the best technology will be made available to the health care industry.
