4G Apple iPhone and expected release date

Buzz This

When should we expect the 4G Apple iPhone release date to be and what could we expect in iPhone 3.0 software, which supports this future standard?

These are questions that are partly answered in a great article on Silicon Republic. They write about the upcoming 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) and how the next-generation iPhone is rumored to be compatible with this standard.

The Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8, 2009 is the event that should unveil the next Apple iPhone. Although there has been no official news, many rumors point towards this possibility.

Apple’s iPhone 3.0 firmware is rumored to include a few improvements for enhanced wireless networking and more specifically a chip for low power 802.11n wireless. Visit Silicon Republic for more details on this, expected release dates and the ability to join 5GHz networks.

Let us know if you’re looking forward to a faster 4G iPhone.

Wow, a 4G iPhone. Woo hoo. “Note the sarcasm” I love my iPhone no doubt but at&t needs to get 3g everywhere before they can go 4g. In my state there are only 2! Repeat 2 cities with 3G networks! What’s the use of buying a sports car and only being able to drive it 3mph to the end of your driveway?

    • Pfysch says:

When the 4G is released AT&T will no longer carry the iPhone, Since AT&T is still having problems setting a full 3G Network throughout the country everywhere you go. Verizon however has already started their installation of te 4G network. So, now Verizon will be carrying the iPhone, this includes the 2G and 3G

      • iPhone savvy says:

i dont think 4G network are compatible with 3G networks..

also, i dont matter who gets the 4G LTE network up faster, its WHOEVER pays Apple or Steve Jobs more money will get the contracts..

        its all about the money…

        • NoATT says:

Can’t wait to put my hands on Iphone 4G and not having to tied up with AT&T. Sprint is the first on to get and Verizon has deceided not to have IPhones since they don’t want to be “controlled” by Apple. “SAY NO TO AT&T”

        • Justin says:

Lol, AT&T didnt pay apple anything to get the iphone, at&t was the only carrier willing to let apple design the phone entirely how they wanted too, while using there own applications and media. Verizon was only willing to do “design by commitee” and only allow verizon apps, so apple told them to go to hell, so they already screwed up. It is far more likely that the iPhone 4g will not be carrier locked at all, and every company who wishes will subsidise the cost, which would be a great thing for consumers.

        • Donna says:

          > i dont think 4G network are compatible with 3G networks..

Who said they had to be “compatible”????

You can easily design a phone that had BOTH chipsets in them.

          Stop thinking like it’s 1980.

      • MattyB says:

Verizons network and the CDMA network could NEVER handle the iphone. there would be so many issues, constant network failures. they will never have the iphone, sorry to burst yours and anyone else’s bubble, but its not happening.

    • Alex says:

They don’t have 3g all around? In England practically every phone network has 3g all around, I am glad to see America is slowly catching up with communication technology, i want to visit America and not be reminded that you started texting nearly a decade after every other country lol

  2. Kevin says:

4g does not imply 4g networking. The phone will still be 3g network. The 4g implies 4th generation.

    kr

    • firejetforcer says:

No. 4g would not stand for fourth generation. The iPhone 3GS is only the 3rd generation making the iPhone 3G second generation making the iPhone “2G” the 1st generation. The 3.0 software update is for the 3rd generation iPhone so you guys will have to wait for the 4.0 software update for the 4G networking. The g in iPhone does not mean generation like the related iPod trend.

      • Alex says:

a simple software update wont give people 4g networking, if it were that easy i would still be using my old Nokia 3320, it would need new hardware, also, are you aware the g in 3g networking is generation anyway? 3g is known fully as third generation wireless communication

    • Justin says:

your retarded, really. 3G= 3G network, not 3rd generation. Every damn phone on the market that uses the 3G network has 3G in the name, are all of them the 3rd generation of that phone model as well? That would be one hell of a coincidence huh?

    • jose says:

At&t are currently working on the 4g network that why there are so many connection problems as of late.

  3. Mike says:

Actually…4G refers to the network. The 3G iPhone is the second generation iPhone.

    • Roberto says:

actually it refers to generation not network 3g is the 3rd generation

      • Will says:

Actually… 1st Gen: iPhone 2nd Gen: iPhone 3G (decided this because it was on a 3G network) 3rd Gen: iPhone 4G (decided this because it is 1G after 3G) Apple decided to continue the trend that Windows already has. iPhone 4G in reality will neither be run on a 4G network nor be the 4th generation. So you are both wrong!

        • Billy says:

          Actually…

          1st Gen: iphone
          2nd Gen: iphone 3g
          3rd Gen: iphone 3gs
4th Gen: no clue… but if it support 4g networking then probably will be called iphone 4g, if not… then probably will continue to use 3g in its name

        • karan says:

ppl 4G is in-fact the fourth generation because 2g was the first gen phone
          3G: 2nd gen
3G S: IS the 3rd gen cuz it did have many changes n used 3g network so apple decided to keep 3G in the name n wen it was released the IPhone 4g was already being developed
          4G: is the 4th gen now as u c.

n no the 4G network specifically will not be compatible with the 4G on release maybe a l8r update will enable that.
take this from a huge apple fan surrounded by they’re latest products :) n reads ALL the new :)
          cheers n Apple Rulzz

  4. schell says:

the reason it is called 4g is that it will be a 4g phone, even if there are no networks, so when they do get 4g networks this phone will already be ready for 4g

  5. zhaidhee says:

so, any idea when is this iphone 4g will be in the store?

  6. ketz says:

who ever post this picture of iphone 4g he is stupit or idiot or both

    • Chris says:

Can you make your self any more stupid? You spell stupid wrong. You contiue your already messed up sentence making it a run on with no commas. All while calling someone stupid. You,my friend, may just be stupid your self.

  7. yeahbuddy says:

I am an AT&T employee and 3G refers to 3rd generation network.

    • Patty says:

You really care what the phone is going to be NAMED????

You can name it “iphone 3XYZ” for all I care.

      WHO CARES????

I care about the *DEVICE* and what it can do.

      Duh.

  8. Inside Informer says:

I have inside info that the testing for the next generation in iPhone technology has started. What the new features on the 4G iPhone are still unclear but is rumored to have a camera underneath the screen for video conferencing. This leads me to the next part, it is still uncertain whether this WILL be on a 4G network. The release date for the iPhone 4G is set for sometime in July of 2009. If the iPhone 4G is not out by then, then the postdated release for the new iPhone is sometime in December.

That is all I know for now I will post more information as the testing of the new iPhone continues.

    Inside Informer.

  9. Naseer says:

well all of you guys m working in apple,..
    1g means 1st generation
    2g means 2nd generation
3g is the same 2G phone but with 3g network so it was decided 1st to call it as 2g extended version but then after the company decided to launch it with a name of 3G, not 3rd Gen.
its like a marketing sought of thing if anyone knows, it was to attract more customer and it did worked quite efficiently,
the new i phone name isn’t even decided, loll… there is nothing going on to make a 4g phone.

    • stan says:

      @Naseer

#1 u dont work for apple
-they’d hire someone who could actually write in english if you were an engineer
-unless you’re a telephone rep, but that just discredits any technical knowledge you have

#2 3g is not the same 2g phone if it’s on 3G network, the entire board is different in order to be able to get the 3g frequencies

iPhone 4G does not merely mean it’s the 4th generation of the iPhone, it also means that it’ll be able to support the 4G network (IMT-A compatible)
