Final Fantasy XIII: Battle system details

As the release of the Japanese Final Fantasy XIII demo draws closer and closer, we have some detailed information for you on how the battle system will work within the game.

As reported from Eurogamer, gaming magazines Edge and OPM got the chance to visit Square Enix’s offices in Japan for their chance to try out the upcoming demo which is due for release over there soon.

Following that, Eurogamer said that Edge thinks ‘Final Fantasy XIII is the best looking game on the PS3 yet’, which is quite a statement to make judging from just a demo version of the game.

Back to the battle system though and the game will feature the traditional ‘Active Battle System’ that fans are more used to seeing in previous games. Magic and Action points have been removed and the characters time gauge will be split into three segments.

One segment will be divided for use on weaker spells and abilities, while two or three will be used on more powerful spells. Players will be able to ‘queue’ up their segments for multiple commands per turn, we presume allowing for combo attacks or special limit-break type moves.

Eurogamer also point out that battles will not be random, but it will be hard to players to avoid enemies in the paths featured in the demo.

Let us know what you think. Read Eurogamers full take for more details, expect to see more Final Fantasy news within the next few weeks for impressions on the big demo.
