Xbox 360 System update released - Contains no new features

It’s a crazy system update frenzy today. Microsoft has released a new system update for their Xbox 360 console. Unfortunately, it only addresses numerous ‘interruption issues’ that were present and does not bring any new features to the system.

While we don’t want to encourage any heated war of words between PS3 and Xbox 360 owners, we feel as if PS3 owners will be the happier of the two this morning, following their 2.70 firmware update. Having said that, Xbox 360 still has the superior party chat feature which PS3 owners are waiting for, so maybe it’s not too bad, eh?

As reported by VG247, the post from Major Nelson states: ”This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games. There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features. This update will be rolled out to all Xbox LIVE members around the world over the space of a few hours, so you may not get prompted for the update immediately. ”

Update is available to download now.

I realize the most recent reply to this was in August, but just this week I updated my 360 and it red ringed immediately after and it occurred just as it did to Travis:
“This update also crashed my 360. After the patch the console froze about 30 seconds after the update finished installing, causing a checkerboard pattern on the display over the dashboard. When I reboot I get the red ring.”

Fortunately Microsoft’s three year warranty has expanded to cover most, if not all 360’s for three red lights, and the E74 error as well.
