PS3 Update 2.70: Video walkthrough of firmware
By: Peter Chubb | April 2, 2009 | 15 CommentsIn a recent post, we asked you what your impressions were of the new Text Chat feature on PS3 Firmware 2.7. Here we have a Video walkthrough preview of PS3 firmware Update 2.70, there are a lot of great features in this firmware update date. The first of which is text chat, the video takes a close look at how this works. To start a text chat you can go down to your friends list, you can click on a friend or the triangle button of a friend.
Then just click on a friend and start a new chat, you will then be given a choice of text chat or voice chat. Once the program has started you can start typing messages, the video gets a little boring while we are waiting for the demonstrator to type his message.
Once you start communicating with a friend, you can carry the conversation on through a game. This is demonstrated on the video as they are launching Killzone while in chat. When you are in a game just press the PS button and then go over to the chatroom, it will then have the chat log saved from the previous conversation. You can have up to three chats running at once, and u can invite up to 15 people into your chat.
There have also some improvements made to the friends list, in the past the list was sorted by everyone who was online alphabetically, and everyone who was offline alphabetically. You can now sort by name, or sort by status, this will be in the order of when someone was last online.
