Microsoft doesn’t believe they are under added pressure from Sony following yesterday’s big (or not so big) announcement of the price cut for the PlayStation 2 console.
As we informed you yesterday, Sony have now dropped the price of the PS2 console by USD 30, meaning it’s now available for $99 across retail stores and 99 Euros over in Europe.
However, Microsoft thinks that the future is about the current generation of consoles and not about the nine year old PlayStation 2.
When speaking to GI.Biz, Chris Lewis from Microsoft stated: “This move from Sony at the end of the PS2’s life cycle is not unexpected. We believe, however, that the future lies in the growth of current generation consoles and Xbox 360, as the fastest growing games console last year, with sales up over 80 per cent, will continue to drive the market.”
So there you have it guys, a bit of fighting talk from Microsoft and rightly so, we all knew they would make some sort of speech to follow Sony’s. Let us know your views on the subject.
