Gmail Autopilot: Google on April Fool 2009

Today is April Fools Day 2009, and we are all in need of a good laugh considering the troubling few months that we have had and the worst is yet to come. No matter where you look on the Internet big websites are playing practical jokes, even the mighty Google normally plays a joke and they have not let us down this year. Its April Fool for this year is a new service called Gmail Autopilot by CADIE.

More and more of us communicate with each other every day over email, and it is getting harder to respond to all the mail that we get. Gmail Autopilot will help you, as it will mimic your own communication style, and then it will construct its own response to an incoming email.

The more messages that you have in Gmail the better, that way Autopilot can sample more messages and mirror your response better. You have settings where you are able to adjust the preferred punctuation, typo propensity and tone.

This was a funny April Fool; I wonder how many of you fell for it?

You know what? I wish this Autopilot thing was real. Imagine all the hassle this thing could save me from all the spam that I get. Automated replies for each special person in my life:

Betsy Lou: “I’ll be there after dinner.”
Wifey: “Yes, I’ll be home before dinner.”
Boss: “I’m sorry, it was my fault. I had too much for dinner last night.”

Oh, and gullible was taken out of wikipedia! Try searching for it.
