Today was the day when the Conflicker Conficker Worm would be turned on and do damage to millions of computers that run on Windows XP and Vista. The first reports have now started to come in as the infected systems passed zero hour at midnight, which was when the worm started to download additional malicious components.
Believe it or not, PC Mag reports that things have been quiet, a number of security vendors did notice that the Conficker or Downadup worm did start to increase the amount of DNS resolutions, but this was expected. So far the worm has not done any serious damage to systems.
Although there is still a threat with Conficker, the threat that the worm will wreak havoc on the Internet has subsided, now the attitude is to just keep a close eye on things. If you are worried that you might have the Conficker worm there are a few easy steps that you can take.
The easiest way to see if you have the worm is try and visit www.symantec.com, if you can get on there then all is ok, if you can’t, chances are you have the worm. If you have the latest antivirus program from Norton or mcafee, then you will have nothing to worry about.

Like i said in another comment of mine, the best thing is to go to bdtools.net and run the removal tool there.
the Conficker worm seems to have failed to live up to it’s apocalyptic reputation, but that’s obviously a good thing
