PS2 price cut confirmed for US and Europe only, not UK

We wrote to you yesterday about the new $99 price point that was due to be revealed by Sony today. Well we can confirm that to be true but we have also heard there will be a price cut in Europe as well, but not for UK owners.
SCEE was speaking to VG247 and made sure everyone knew exactly what the PS2 price cut entails. Europe will now be able to pick up a PS2 for €99 but stated, ”The price of PS2 is not being reduced in the UK”.
At the moment, you can pick up a silver slim line PS2 from Play for £59.99 with free delivery anyway, so it makes sense not to reduce the price further in the UK.
Meanwhile over in the US, Sony made a big deal out of the PS2 price cut there as John Koller made a big speech about it on the PS Blog.
Are you that bothered about the new deals for the PS2? We have a feeling many of you are more concerned about the juicy 2.70 firmware update we have been hearing about. We would like to know your views on this.

I was about to complain, but seeing as €99 is about £92 at the moment it’s already cheaper in the UK.
Wow as if people wish to go out and buy a PS2 That’s like ancient crap. What’s next a PSP Price cut to $2.00 These are ancient consoles people would rather save and purchase something new and modern Thats like Microsoft selling old computers for $300.00 from 1998 when a new one with vista and 2gb ram is $500 whats the point?
This article is misleading. Both the model and price cited in it for the Availability of PS2’s in the UK is either wrong or misleading. Firstly the model linked too is NOT a slimline model and secondly and more importantly it is USED!
People in America can get used old PS2’s for much cheaper. So please dont try and imply that us in the UK are getting the better end of any deal, we’re getting jipped short and simple.
I have been looking for a NEW PS2 for a month in the UK, due to the fact that new PS3’s are not backwardly compatible and I love alot of my old PS2 games. However no major reatailer in the entire UK stocks new PS2’s. So with the decision to leave us out of this offer, sony has basically hit the death nail on anyone wishing to purchase a new PS2 within the UK without having to pay extortinate amounts through private sellers.
Ugh…. What? Here every shop sells “NEW SLIMLINE & OLD” PS2 Consoles there is like millions of them here for sale in Australia they even come with a eyetoy bundle!
