April 1 or April Fool’s Day is expected to be a very bad day for Microsoft and the millions of users who have Windows running on their systems. This is the day that the Conficker worm is expected to hit the Internet, but there are a number of experts who disagree on how extensive the damage will be once the worm hits on Wednesday.
The Conficker is a system that allows Microsoft to find which computers are running the legitimate Microsoft patch, and which of those were patched by a worm. However, this Conficker worm is just another exploit of a flaw in the Microsoft software.
A Vietnamese security firm believes that the Conficker could have originated in China, as it has the same roots as the Nimda, which the firm also believes started of life in China. CNET News has a number of articles on the Conficker worm, which you should familiarize yourself with.
