Firefox 3.0: Europe’s No.1 browser, although lags behind Microsoft’s IE

Mozilla have something to celebrate, as its Firefox 3.0 web browser has become the most popular in Europe. However, Mozilla’s browser is still lagging behind Microsoft’s Internet Explorer if you add up all the previous versions of IE. This is according to StatCounter’s latest statistics.

Tech Radar has been looking in to the survey and has said that Firefox has finally caught up and is now more popular that IE7, Firefox 3.0 now has 35.05 percent of the browser market share. The reason why Firefox 3.0 has gained ground on Internet Explorer 7 is the fact that it does not have the same issue with ‘legacy’ users who choose to stay on older versions of IE.

The gap between Firefox 3.0 and IE7 is just over half a percent, and Aodhen Cullen, CEO of StatCounter believes that Firefox will overtake the Internet Explorer web browser shortly. The reason why Firefox 3.0 has managed to gain on IE7 is that users have now started to upgrade to IE8.

The question is, will Firfox still be able to compete with the launch of Internet Explorer 8?
