Conficker Worm (aka doomsday virus): How do you protect yourself?

Buzz This

Tomorrow, April 1 is going to be the day that the Conficker worm will spread across millions of computers running on Windows, and will be the one of the worst worms in recent years. I can assure you that this is no April Fool, and it is not certain how much damage this worm will cause.

The Guardian is trying to keep people calm by telling them not to be alarmed, they have wrote an article and are giving advice on how you can check if you are protected against the Conficker Worm (aka doomsday virus). The first thing that you need to do is check if you have been infected; only Windows PC users have to worry about the virus.

The quickest and easiest way to check if you are infected with the Conficker Worm is try to visit web pages from either Symantec or McAfee. If you have trouble getting on the pages, then it looks as though you are infected. If you have downloaded Microsoft Security Update MS08-067, then should be safe.

If you are worried that you are infected by the Conficker worm, then you will have to locate a removal tool to clean your Windows PC or laptop up. DShield has a list of Conficker repair tools, which should be able to remove the worm.

Make certain that you download a removal program that you can trust. The best tip that I can give you is to download a free trial of Norton 360, Norton Internet Security 2009 or Antivirus 2009.

    • Josh says:

Just unplug it and make sure theres no wireless or wired internet to it. Should be fine. Dont overdue it but make sure there is no way for someone to browse the files.

  2. Eddy Yang says:

No, you idiot, just unplug ur internet cable, and don’t turn on ur computer, and ur safe

  3. Sam says:

Jimy, I wouldn’t even stop using the computer if u can access those sites and have run Malware Bytes scans and have AVG Free running scans. Even then…no point in taking your computer apart lmao just turn it off and take out the Ethernet cable if you want.
