Acer laptops with Intel’s CULV platform
By: Peter Chubb | March 31, 2009 | Leave a CommentAcer, the third largest PC brand in the world is about to launch its latest notebooks in a range of size, and will have the new Intel CULV processors inside. Acer said that the new range will be available from April and will feature Intel’s consumer ultra low voltage platform.
Cens.com has reported that Acer will contract Quanta Computer Inc. to start rolling out an 11.6-inch notebook PC with the CULV processor. Inventec Corp. will produce the 13-inch model, and Wistron Corp. will be building the 14 and 15-inch models. You would have thought that Acer would have used the new processor in the Acer Aspire One, instead of the Intel Atom Z530.
Intel launched the CULV platform in the fourth quarter of 2008, and with its power and cost efficiency a number of notebook PC brands have shown their interest. Those include HP, Dell and Lenovo, they are already engaged in applications of the new platform, and plan to launch notebook PCs with the CULV platform.
