Only 65W: Intel Core 2 Quad S-Series

Here we have the Intel Core 2 Quad S-Series and is based on Intel’s 45 nm manufacturing process, the CPU will utilize the same silicon as the non-S models, and is based on the Core 2 Duo ‘Wolfdale’ design. Intel has put two of these into one processor, and as a result has created a Core 2 Quad processor.

Toms Hardware says that the new Core 2 Quad offers both high performance and an acceptable power consumption level, and has a maximum thermal design power of 65 W. There are three processor models in the S-Series, all of which have the same characteristics and performance as the regular models.

The three S-Series models are 2.33 GHz Core 2 Quad Q8200S with a two 2 MB L2 cache, the 2.66 GHz Core 2 Quad Q9400S with a 3 MB cache and finally the 2.83 GHz Core 2 Duo Q9550S with a 6 MB L2 cache for each core, this will give it a massive 12 MB L2 cache.

Intel understand that things are tight for its consumers, which is why they have been looking at reducing the prices of its Quad Core chips by up to 40 percent cheaper.
