This morning we reported about a Sony announcement coming on Tuesday regarding the PS3. Well today, news has been leaked that a PS2 price cut is coming on 5th April and will be available for $99.
As some of you might be aware, the Nintendo DSi is due for release in the states on that date too so we could be seeing a week of planned tactics for Sony. According to VGChartz, the new $99 price point means that it is a $30 cut from the old price which is a 25% drop. They have also obtained some images giving proof of these claims.
What do you make of the news? Does a PS2 price cut mean any significance to you? It should be an interesting week for Sony regarding their big announcement. We’ll keep you updated.

That’s a great price point. I still play my PS2 all the time. There are a legion of massive and complex games in the PS2 catalogue that are all worth playing and would take years to complete. I’m not sure that the difference between the PS2 and PS3 is as great as the step between the PS1 and PS2 and, therefore, it feels less like a poor-mans-choice than previously.
There is a huge difference between the PS3 and PS2. You must not own a PS3 then. I know that there was a huge leap between the PS1 and PS2. Perhaps in the earlier years of the pS3, you would not say that. But now, anyone has to admit or realize that the jump from PS2 and PS3 is greater than the PS1 to PS2.
That price cut is OK, i guess. If 25% price reduction means anything, then that means that the PS3 could also get a 25% price reduction. Which would put it at $299. Which is what people wanted the price to be for the PS3. Which would result in a HUGE SALE SURGE FOR THE PS3 IN APRIL.
Hey, just in time for Tax Returns. PERFECT!!!!
I was hoping for a more compact, energy efficient version of the PS2 as mentioned we would get back in 2007. Is this just the same old unit with a reduced price?
Looks like that way Ming..
Sony really know how to squeeze the cash out of gamers dont they!
The only question this story raises is why use the hack site vgchartz?
