Low-cost games on Web and phone vs Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360
By: Alan Ng | March 30, 2009 | Leave a CommentAs more and more people are now playing video games than ever before, console game makers and publishers are worried that low-cost games on the internet and mobile phones are taking the focus away from the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
In an article over at the NYTimes, they highlight the fact that these low-cost web and phone games are limiting the price console game publishers can put on their games and as a result of this, causing them problems in the future.
Former Chief Executive of Eidos Mike Mcgarvey, who is now an senior figure with OnLive stated: “The model as it exists is dying.” When talking at the current price model for consoles and games he said, ”This is too expensive and there are too many choices.”
As the article rightly points out, we have already seen financial losses for big gaming companies such as Take-Two and THQ so it is an issue that needs to be addressed before we get another name taking the plunge.
