Over the past month, much has been spoken about with the launch of Google Voice, the new name for grand Central. There was however one major problem with this new service, you had to change your main number to be able to take full advantage of Google Voice.
Lifehacker reported the obvious, that this process is a bit of a pain for you and your contacts. However, Lifehacker is the bearer of good news, in a recent Google support page; it explains that number porting could be coming in the near future.
If you visit the Google Support page, it goes as follows “Although you can’t currently port your existing number to Google Voice, we hope to offer this option in the near future. Please tell us if this is a feature you’d like to see in Google Voice.” This is great news, one that we will be keeping a very close eye on.

But that message has been there since before Google Voice existed. Grandcentral has stated the same thing since before Google bought it (http://www.google.com/support/grandcentral/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=79949).
