Mazda’s diesel commitment
By: Peter Chubb | March 27, 2009
Not so long ago, a number of German automakers said that they will be pushing diesels instead of hybrids, but that has not been the case. Porsche already has hybrids, and BMW are about to push their hybrids when they are launched, and Mercedes are also falling in love with the hybrid drivetrain.
CNN have been looking closely into this and have pointed out that these German automakers also have their diesel cars, but they seem to be favoring hybrid. Mazda have now gone on the record to say that they are dedicated to diesels along with reducing the weight of its vehicles. Mazda have also added that they will introduce a diesel that can achieve hybrid-like fuel economy figures by 2011.
One of the cars that Mazda has in mind is the 2.0-liter clean diesel, and will use as much fuels as a 660-cc gas engine in a kei car, and it would be as efficient as GM’s BAS system or BMW’s Efficient Dynamics hybrid vehicles.
