New Apple 17-inch MBP firmware update to fix vertical line problems
Filed under: Computers, Software

Apple has released a firmware update for its 17-inch MacBook Pro, and although it is very light on the details, we do know that it puts an end to the strange vertical lines that used to plague the notebooks displays.
Macrumors have said that although MacBook Pro Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 solves the issue, Apple have not said if it was an overheating problem or a glitch with the GeForce 9600M graphics card that comes installed in the 17-inch MBP.
When we think about it, who really cares what the problem was as long as things are now working fine. When you get home just, hit the Software Update button, where it will download the 770KB update.

actually we should care. What if Apple restrained functionality of the GPU in the patch so to avoid overheating (e.g., some engineering design that cannot be fixed with a software). This would mean customers are paying a premium for a video card on a leash.
I am just making this up. but that’s one reason Apple should clarify the problem.
