The Zeebo games console - Your thoughts?

The Game Developers Conference is always sure to deliver some fresh and big announcements within the games industry. One of these was the announcement of Zeebo, which is a 3G wireless games console specifically tailored for the emerging markets.

As reported by GI.Biz, the console will be available at a budget price of USD 199 and will go on sale in Brazil next month sometime. The console does not have a game-disc feature but instead will deliver it’s games via digital distribution, even further proof that the industry is rapidly edging towards this. Way to go Dave Perry, looks as if you were right.

The console will come pre-installed with four titles as well as one free download, no details have been released on what those games will be though. It has already got some of the best developers and publishers signed up for the console, some of these include Capcom, Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, Id Software, Namco and THQ.

John Rizzo, CEO of Zeebo said: “The Zeebo console will deliver a truly engaging and entertaining gaming experience to a potential billion new consumers around the world, many of whom have never experienced gaming in the home.”

“The system provides an intuitive, quick, and easy-to-use home shopping user experience featuring popular, culturally optimised content from leading game publishers and developers around the world. It also delivers high-value and warranty protection compared to grey market products with no need for a separate wireless access plan.”

We will keep you updated when we hear of exact specs for this console and the types of games we will expect to see. For now though, let us know what your initial impressions are of the Zeebo console.
