Ford and aid for GM Europe

Ford Motor Company (F) is the only major US Auto Maker to not to request any funding from federal governments in the United States and other countries. However, Ford has always supported its competitors who have been seeking financial aid, such as General Motors Corporation (GM).
You would have thought that Ford do not care too much if its competitors have to shut up shop and stop making vehicles, but Ford of Europe CEO John Fleming explains that it is much more complicated than that. He said, “I would rather take sales from competitors by having better products rather than them going out of business.” That certainly makes perfect sense.
The problem is a loss of a major automaker such as GM would have a serious impact on the auto supplier industry, which is already in a very weak position. Fleming has suggested that the European Union needs to come up with its own form of aid for automakers.
