When it comes to designing Palm Inc (PALM) Smartphone’s, they do it all themselves such as the case with the Palm Pre. However, the company does not do the assembling; the manufacturing of the Palm Pre is to be outsourced to Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS).
Chi Mei will be the first to see what the final production version of the first webOS-based Smartphone performs like. Chi Mei is not one of the biggest Smartphone makers in Taiwan, but they do make handsets for Motorola.
It is thought that production of the Palm Pre could start as early as this month, which indicates that stores will be gearing up soon for the latest handset from Palm. The phone has had so much hype, as many hope that it will be able to compete with the Apple (AAPL) iPhone. Let us go back a few months when the same was said of the BlackBerry Storm from RIM (Research In Motion) (RIMM), and we know how that ended.
