Following on from the news yesterday about the Sony PS3 price cut, many of you will be hanging on to purchase a new Sony (SNE) PS3 or PSP until you learn more about the rumored price cuts, CVG say that Retailers have allegedly been told of the new prices the games console and handheld.
They were told that prices will be reduced very soon, something that Sony had always refused to do in the past. There are two reasons why I think this is, the first is that they wish to shift more units, and the second is that as we are a recession consumers have to tighten their belts.
Those of you that already a own PS3 will not benefit from the price reduction, unless you are looking to purchase a second PS3. Could this lower PS3 price be what some Xbox 360 owners are waiting for, to jump ship?
The rumored price for the 80GB Sony PS3 is $399 and will be reduced to $299, which is a saving of $100.

What will it do for me? Nothing, I’ve already got one. Hopefully it’ll mean more people buy the machine and better games are released. I prefer the PS3’s controller and quiet fan noise to the 360 but until the machine has more and better exclusives or better graphics on multi-format games I’ll still be buying for the 360.
Why are people STILL going on about lack of PS3 exclusives or bad graphics? Is the internet stuck in some kind of timewarp whereby 360 fanboys continue to think it’s 2006?
I personally can’t remember a time when there have been so many exclusive games I’ve been looking forward to buying in a single year:
KillZone 2
inFamous
Heavy Rain
God of War III
Gran Turismo 5
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
MAG
Quantum Theory
Ratchet & Clank: Future 2
Under Siege
The Agency
DC Universe Online
MLB ’09: The Show
As well as exclusives with no release date yet:
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
L.A. Noire
Twisted Metal
Resistance 3
Team ICO Project
And this isn’t even the full list! Anyone that mentions ‘lack of exclusives’ in blog comments can be instantly written off as a 360 fanboy IMO. It is clearly not true, and if none of the wide ranging genres above appeal to you, you either don’t like games or have sworn undying allengiance to the 360 that nothing short of a PS3 exclusive version of Halo 4 would break!
So stop pretending that no exclusives is the reason you stay away from the PS3 and admit it’s a bad dose of 360 fayboyism - admitting it is the first step to recovery you know!
If the price drops to $299 the 360 fanboys are going to really be struggling to justify why they think the 360 is better - PS3, blu-ray, built in wi-fi, free online, rechargable controllers, large HDD - the value for money proposition is head and shoulders above MS’s nikel & dime approach.
They’ve used LIVE, until the PSN got up to speed and aside from a few minor missing features is everything LIVE is and in some cases more - for free!
They’ve used Achievements, until Trophies were launched hugely improving the initial Achievement concept.
They’ve used lack of exclusives, until the 2009 launch schedule was announced.
They’re using the price, until it comes down this year.
What’s next I wonder?
Erm, are you not a PS3 fanboy? You sound a bit obsessive too - do you hear voices? Do they tell you to do bad things?
I will buy one immediately if the price drops $100.00. I was thinking of buying one anyway. News of the price cut coming has stopped me. Now I am waiting.
@Slippery Sloppy
I believe he is just annoyed at the negativity toward the PS3. You see much more [unjustified] negativity toward the PS3 than that of PS3 fanboys saying bad things about the Xbox360 and I trust you realize there is an abundance of mean things to say about the 360.
Both are good consoles, but I believe the time of the 360 is up. It’s time to go with a console built to last a decade: PS3.
