We often come across a gadget that is so cool that it often passes us by, but we were surprised when we saw this. The SwitchEasy ThumbTacks is a new tiny recordable mini-mic, which just plugs into your Apple (AAPL) Nano 4G or iPod Touch 2G.
The great thing about ThumbTacks is that it is not an obscure looking item; it is a familiar day-to-day object. The design certainly looks great and is the perfect shape to easily push in and pull out. This is the smallest mic of its kind, and it still manages to function and withstand what day-to-day life throws its way.
SwitchEasy’s ThumbTacks allows you to fulfill the potential of your iPod, and it is easy to use. Just push the device in the 3.5mm headphone jack, and your iPod will then turn on the voice recorder.
The quality of the microphone is much better than you would assume, and outperforms any other device of a similar size. The ThumbTacks retails at $12.99.

I am extremely displeased with this company. I have received only one of the two thumbtacks I ordered over 3 weeks ago.
When I tested the one I did receive, the first thing I noticed was that you cannot hear playback while the mic is in place. I have sent half a dozen emails to Switcheasy trying to find out this is a normal condition or if the thumbtack is just not working the way it is supposed to work. Their response is THEY DON”T KNOW WHY PLAYBACK DOESN’T WORK WHILE THE THUMBTACK IS IN PLACE AND THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW IF PLAYBACK IS SUPPOSED TO WORK WHILE THE THUMBTACK IS IN PLACE AND THEY DON’T KNOW WHO TO ASK TO FIND OUT. I will provide copies of their responses to my questions to anyone who finds this hard to believe. This is the first and last item I order from SWITCHEASY
Ipod software can provide the feature of playing through the speakers even though the thumbtack is plugged in. The skype app does this e.g.
This is 100% user error; however, SwitchEasy should have told you to shutup, it’s not them, it’s you.
BIG Thanks Rickard. I just tried it. There is at least one AP that works, does anyone know of any others?
