Microsoft IE8: Can Firefox, Safari and Chrome still compete?
By: Peter Chubb | March 19, 2009 | Leave a CommentMicrosoft (MSFT) has finally launched their latest incarnation of its web browser, Internet Explorer 8, and the new browser is thought to be faster and have improved security. Internet Explorer have been slowly losing its market share to the likes of Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple’s Safari (AAPL), and Google’s Chrome (GOOG) have also been creeping up slowly.
Microsoft has a lot riding on IE8, but the problem is it is not the only solution for browsing on the Internet today. If we go back a couple of years, Internet Explorer’s market share was huge, but the likes of Firefox and Safari seem to have stopped the monster from treading on everything in its path, and give them something to think about.
Microsoft are pinning its hopes on the latest security features of IE8, but it seems as though this browser is not as secure as Microsoft thought. A security researcher identified as Nils managed to use an undisclosed exploit to compromise Internet Explorer 8.
