
Vodafone and O2 UK to network share
By: Peter Chubb | March 16, 2009 | Leave a CommentFT.com is reporting that Vodafone (VOD) and O2 (TEF) are considering a network sharing deal. These kinds of deals are becoming more common, a great example of this is with H3G (Three) who use the T-Mobile (DT) network.
One of the major benefits of network sharing is a huge potential saving in operating costs and not needing to build new transmitters. There are a number of ways where carriers can share networks such as sharing the same site, or piping calls and data to each other.
Vodafone already have a network sharing deal with France Telecom’s Orange, if Vodafone and O2 finalize a deal with each other then Orange looks all set to join a network-sharing agreement with T-Mobile and 3.
