Pressure is mounting on Sony to deliver a price cut for the Playstation 3 as game publishers warn of future development funds being shifted over to the Nintendo Wii.

An article over at Bloomberg has highlighted some of the factors which Sony will need to think about if they are going to have a successful 2009.

They make an example of Activision Blizzard, who are the world’s biggest games company, generating 32 percent of its console revenue from Wii titles compared to only 19 percent for the PS3. Meanwhile Peter Moore from Electronic Arts said on the issue, “Sony obviously still has a ways to go with their pricing.”

Of course sony will “Eventually” announce a price cut. The issue is not if, but when.

If reports of Sony still taking a loss on each console sold are true, they are not going to want to deliver that price cut any time soon.

With a Share price thats plunged 54%, factories being shut down and large scale redundancies planned to reduce operating costs, Sony are not in a good place.

I own a ps3 and any price cut is not doing any good to me. I strongly believe that the software developers should cut the price of the games. It’s outrageous to spend $60 for a disc. Don’t you see where the problem is?

I really don’t understand this “PS3 needs a pricecut” witchhunt.. PS3 by far and away, even at it’s current price offers the best value in consoles.

Where else can you get a top notch console, with a huge selection of exclusive titles, a Blu-ray player, a media streaming client, a web browser, a photo viewer, DVD upscaler…
