2012: Apple iPhone to be outsold by Google Android phones

By: Peter Chubb | March 10, 2009 | 3 Comments

Informa Telecoms and Media have published a new report that’s states that Android Smartphone’s will exceed sales of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone by 2012. It is expected that the share of Smartphone’s will go up, due to the fall in handset prices.

The report also says that by 2013 almost 2 out of 5 phones sold will be Smartphone’s, sales of mobile phones look set to fall by 10 percent in 2010, with Smartphone sales growing by a third. Android-based Smartphone’s are expected to thrive because of the absence of licenses, compared to the likes of Apple, Microsoft, Palm and RIM.

It is thought that Android sales will surpass that of the iPhone by 2012. Only a few million units have been sold, and the small trickle of Android sales is expected to become a stream by the end of 2009.

This is all speculation of course; this report does not take into considering that Apple will offer a new version of their iPhone in that time. Look how great the 3G version is now; just think what the next model will be like.

Informa Telecom sponsorized by Google ?

For god’s sake, how can you simply even believe someone can predict the iPhone will sell/not sell better than any other phone in 3 years from now on ?

Has anyone noticed phones do change very rapidly ? That Apple has a few people dedicated to a concept called “research” ? That the future iphone will probably have nothing to compare with the one we know actually ?

    Please, real news.

Uh, how about the incorrect use of the posessive form of smartphone, rather than the plural? This alone is a red flag regarding this article’s credibility.

I need to use my iPhone *TODAY*… why should I worry about 2012 and beyond????

Besides… do you buy cell phones based on what *YOU* like and need… or based on “what is popular with other people”????
