PS3 Winning or Losing? Digital Battle gives 10 negative reasons

PS3 Winning or Losing? Digital Battle gives 10 negative reasons

By: Alan Ng | March 9, 2009 | 12 Comments

It doesn’t look as if the countless PS3 Vs Xbox 360 debates are going to stop anytime soon. A recent one over at Digital Battle has highlighted 10 reasons as to why they think the PS3 is failing at the moment.

They certainly do not hold back in the article and it has led to a ‘not so friendly’ bout between owners of both systems in their comments section. Whatever position you stand at though, it is still an interesting article to read regardless.

With their prime reasons such as Sony’s decision for multiple and ‘confusing’ SKU’s, the expensive price tag for the console and lack of ‘decent’ titles on offer for owners, they basically believe that the PS3 is on the way down, fast.

Everyone has their opinion though, so they are entitled to that at least. What do you guys think of their story? Let us know, in our friendly comments section below!

negative media will not change the fact that the ps3 is best console – i own all the consoles as i like to be able to play all the best games!

the ps3 for me is the best all round!

  • PS3Gamer

this guy doesn’t know anything, PS3 is doing fine and is meeting their targets, and with PS3 2009-2010 games line up more PS3 Hardware will surely shift and also look at the PS3 Price tag they are selling impressively! compared to the Xbox 360 with a cheap price tag and is most likely selling around the same Unit as the PS3 and that is bad..
PS3 Price cut will come soon so people can stop complaining about its high price.
to be honest the PS3 Price tag is not high it is worth it for its hardware which contain many feature

That sounded like a 360 fanboy rant from someone wishing it was still 2006! Most of those posts are biased rubbish, it’s hardly worth reading.

    10) SKU’s, they were not all out all at once and some were region specific. In addition currently the only difference is the HDD size so this is hardly confusing. The 360 by contrast varies in spec radically by SKU, so by his own logic must be far more confusing for the consumer.

    9) Moot point left over from 2006, the controller now is the DualShock 3 end of. This is only an issue for early adopters, which by definition already own the console anyway. Also the PS1 added Analogue Sticks to it’s controller partway through it’s lifecycle (a FAR more significant and game effecting change) and it didn’t do that much harm did it?

    8) Again moot point, Sony’s arrogance is something 360 fanboys love to go on about. Despite them owning a console from the most smug and arrogant corporation on the planet! Sony may have been misguided and over ambitious, but not necessarily arrogant. Nothing could have prepared them for the anti-Sony press backlash this gen, it seems to be fashionable for news blogs to post trash about Sony and the PS3.

    7) Again old news, most developers now admit the PS3 isn’t that bad afterall and games this year are starting to show the fruits of that additional effort. If I wanted to play a glorified PC game I would get a PC, there’s a fine line between easy and lazy… And to quote Gabe Newell the biggest and possibly fattest Xbox 360 fanboy in the development community is hillarious! This is the same as the PS1 and PS2, and will probably apply to the PS4, it’s why PS consoles last so long and why they can continue to surprise year after year (just look at the stunning God of War II on the PS2 released AFTER the PS3 had launched! If the console was made less complex those results would not have been possible and the quality of games would have plateaued years earlier).

    6) Again welcome to 2006, the cost of PS3 production is plummeting all of the time, and it is pretty well documented that when the 45nm version launches it will receive a 3rd year price cut which will accelerate sales. Remember the PS3 was regularly beating the 360 in sales until MS applied THEIR 3rd year price cut in September (again selective memories from 360 fanboys). Also it’s a long applied business model in the console industry to sell it at a loss – something all consoles bar the Wii have done. (I hope this guy hasn’t kid himselve into thinking the 360 is remotely profitable, what with the billions spent on returns/waranties, the hundreds of millions spent on buying in exclusives, the hundreds of millions spent on blanket advertising etc etc, before you even get to production costs).

5)Again maybe true in 2006, but the sad fact for 360 fanboys is the PS3 exclusive list for 2009 kicks the 360 out of the park – to name a few: KillZone 2, inFamous, Heavy Rain, MAG, God of War III, Uncharted 2, etc etc. And what’s this utter sh*t about the PS3′s inferior 1st party support! The PS3 1st party support wipes the floor with the 360, which relies heavily on paying big cash sums for buying in exclusivity. Halo and Fable are about the only 2 1st party franchise of note on the 360. Aside from a few notable exceptions (Gears of War for example), the 360 still relies on Halo, even resorting to applying it’s brand to crap RTS games nowadays… As for the ratios quoted – THE 360 HAS BEEN ON SALE FOR 12-18 MONTHS LONGER THAN THE PS3, so it stands to reason those owners have more time to buy games.

    4) Again this fanboy is living in the past, any game worthy of note now has a decent port to the PS3, indeed more and more titles are using the PS3 as the primary development platform.

    3) Yet again old news, what was so great that the 360 launched with? I believe it took 2 years for Halo 3 to be released, longer than MGS4?! Besides, it is never too late for a killer-app (see above God of War II). The 2009 lineup is massive and the console is not even 2 years old yet in Europe, that’s hardly unreasonable, and it’s not as if there haven’t been standouts before like Uncharted (first Xmas in Europe).

    2) Again, depends on your stance to over priced extras like Wi-Fi and HDD’s and having to pay to play online. But regardless of that you are compare a console AFTER IT’S YEAR 3 PRICE CUT to a console BEFORE IT’S YEAR 3 PRICE CUT!

    1) Again old news, a lot of titles on the PS2 were exclusive by default given it’s massive sales advantage, also agreements such as GTA were limited to the PS2 console. These are hardly losses, and it’s not as if they aren’t available on the PS3 as well. It is well documented that the market has moved to mutiplatform because increased costs and the market conditions in general – this has affected the 360 as much as it as affected the PS3 (it’s just perceived as being a bigger impact to the PS3 because of a. negative anti-PS3 press, b. the original Xbox was a bit of a flop). Again this gen is all about the 1st party titles, and Sony wins this battle hands down. As an aside I love how 360 fanboys say they hate games like FFXIII, until it’s coming to the 360 and then they pretend they love it! Personally the PS3-exclusive FF vs XIII holds more appeal for me.

So all in all a pretty irrelevant, inaccurate, and generally pointless article from a desperate 360 fanboy. Not even mentioning the fact that the PS3 is sold more in it’s life cycle than the 360 had at the same point – meaning the more negative points he thinks up, the more this reflects badly on the 360!!!

I have just read a bunch of fanboy comments above! Fanboys telling other fanboys that ehy are fanboys, what will we have next!

I have to admit that the PS3 is the most overhyped piece of electronics in history though! Dont much care for the 360 either, although at least M$ didn’t overhype to the point of Sony, red-ring yeah, but then they have not been in the business as long as Sony have they? No
I used to buy Sony all the time until they started going downhill, I mean they dont make anything they can call the best anymore. Even their flatscreen TV’s are made using Samsung parts, seriously one overated company.

  • LOL

Overrated?? Whatever I still rate them the best. They must be they own almost the entire media industry. Why else would everything be recorded on sony devices.

Thx Guys we must admit we are a bit biased towrds the Xbox 360, the xbox 360 if you haven’t noticed already that most of the articles on our site are xbox 360 related having said that we still stand by everything we said in the artcile about ps3 hopefully ps4 will be better.

  • bazzerk

You seriously are living in the past. Sony seriously are not what they used to be, face facts and stop lying to yourself. I used to be a big Sony fan but they just dont do it for me anymore, their stuff is overpriced, not as well made as it used to be and they simply are not the best.

They own a lot of the media industry, yes, but they are now suffering for it. If you want to go on pretending thats fair enough, its your choice. The Sony brand is a name and thats about it, people are starting to realize that. I wish it was not true but I’m affraid it is and that is that.

stop fighting!! enjoy games!! xb360 and ps3 have been neck and neck for some time now, but this is surprising for ps3 with apparent lack of games (i personally favour the ps3 titles over xbox, but i’d say they were ties in this category), and higher price point. read article linked and hopefully we can put an end to all this trash talk:

    I second that.
Some of what’s posted is just plain wrong, such as the lack of killer apps., But I do agree with the multiple SKU’s, they should have just stuck with the original 60 gig version (which I own)

My ps3 is right now my primary gaming unit, Blu/DVD player, SACD player, and a player for video’s I download from the internet. (via flash memory card)

I will say this though, while I haven’t had any problems whatsoever with it. I do fear it dying, I need to use a digital camera for work and thought of not being able to get another one with SD card support scares me.

Well, I think everybody knows that X-Box games have no emotion or storyline. Therefore PS3 will win. Oh, well, wah-wah. Get over it, stupid mindless FPS fanboys, you know for a fact that American games suck compared to Japanese games. And you know, I don’t think the 360 fans understand what an honor it is to have Final Fantasy XIII released on the X-Box 360. Honestly, I don’t think they deserve it. Yeah, I said it. What are you gonna do about it, shoot me? I guess that’s what you’re gonna do, seeing as shooting is what the 360 fanatics are best at.

  • sinn

Rich can you name 5 Japanese rpgs for the ps3, because I can name at least 10 for the 360. Don’t even try naming titles that aren’t even out yet. Japanese games used to be better than American games, now they are the same cliched blah, blah, blah spikey haired whiner has to save the world crap.
