2010: Piaggio MP3 Hybrid Scooter / Trike
By: Peter Chubb | March 9, 2009 | 1 Comment2010 will become a very special year for Piaggio, as that is when their MP3 Hybrid Scooter / Trike goes on sale. This will be the first plug-in hybrid vehicle to be sold in the United States. The scooter will be capable of 141mpg, meaning that it will also be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles as well.
The Hybrid system in the Piaggio MP3 Hybrid Scooter is much the same as the one used in the ever-popular Toyota Prius, but there is one difference, the MPS’s battery can be plugged into an electrical outlet to be recharged. This great feature will make it one desirable scooter.
When the scooter is in maximum performance mode, the batteries are capable of increasing the acceleration by 85 percent. The top speed is 64MPH, which is remarkable considering the 15bhp 125cc engine. The MP3 will go from zero to 60 in just 5 seconds, which is the same kind of power that you would get from a standard 250cc scooter.
When the Piaggio MP3 Hybrid Scooter / Trike is launched in 2010, it should have a price tag of $8000 to $9000.
