A milestone has been reached in the UK, as Pinocchio, the Platinum Edition (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment) became the 1000th Sony (NYSE:SNE) Blu-ray disc to be released. This landmark proves that despite the current financial troubles that the UK is facing, people still want to purchase movies in high-definition.
When the Blu-ray format was first launched, it did have some competition from two formats, HD DVD and DVD. The former lost the high-definition war to Blu-ray, which was great news for Sony and their PS3, which has a Blu-ray player in.
Sony still has another battle on its hands from the format king, DVD. Although the sound and picture quality is not as good as on Blu-ray disc, the DVD format is still no.1 when it comes to movie sales. Blu-ray has started to increase its sales, and the news that the 1000th title has just been launched in the UK proves just that.
