Dave Perry: Retail is doomed, digital distribution is the key
By: Alan Ng | March 6, 2009 | Leave a CommentFollowing on from our recent story about the possibilities of digital distribution in the games industry, well respected games designer Dave Perry has today said that game retailers are ‘doomed’ if they do not go into the digital market.
The boss of Acclaim and Earthworm jim creator said in a story over at GI.Biz that his digital distribution business has “absolutely no interest in retail anymore.” He also thinks the used-games business has become a ‘virus’ as he talked openly and frank on his website.
“Let me go make you exclusive content, let me advertise to send buyers into your store, let me pay to put standees and posters everywhere, so you can sell them used games and stab our industry in the back.”
There are some positives games can take out of pre-owned games of course, but are they really bringing down the industry as a whole as Dave Perry believes? Let us know what you think.
