Nissan concept Qazana saves UK car jobs
By: Peter Chubb | March 5, 2009 | Leave a CommentIt is nice to learn of some good news in the car industry, it is expected that about 1,100 jobs will be safe at Wearside, as that is where the production of Nissan’s five-door concept, the Qazana will take place, which is being unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
The production model of the car will be built at Nissan’s Sunderland factory from the middle of 2010; this is the same plant that has now stopped production of the Micra. This news is also expected to create a further 2,000 jobs for the local supply base.
Back in January, Nissan announced that they were to cut a quarter of their 4,900 workforce at Sunderland, which the automaker blamed the downturn in car sales for. Nissan believes that by the time that the Qazana hits production, the auto market will be much stronger.
