Japan: PS3 Tops Wii and Xbox 360 gets support

After playing second fiddle to the Nintendo Wii for a long period, latest figures from Famitsu has confirmed that the Sony PS3 has secured top spot in the latest Japanese Hardware charts.

As reported from PerezStart, the recent release of popular game Yakuza 3 helped to boost sales for Sony as they had a console bundled along with the game on offer. The official figures for PS3 units sold was 35,000 which beat the Nintendo Wii considerably who could only manage 12,000 units, a strange shift of events indeed.

Meanwhile we can also report that the Xbox 360 is beginning to get more support over in Japan as a number of titles have been announced for Microsoft’s console. Developers were originally reluctant to commit to work on Microsoft’s console but recent news that arcade shooter Mamonoro is heading to the 360 is set to change all this. Along with this is BlazBlue, which we reported about yesterday which was originally thought to be a PS3 exclusive, but is now heading to the 360 too.

    This is where it starts people. This is where the interest and intregue will be enough for people to whats happening over on the Sony side of the World.

    I have all 3 consoles and there is no doubt that they are all great and very worthy machines in their own right – all showing glimmers of genius – but the PS3 is the better of the three.

    I truly believe that with the games that are exclusive and the developers getting to grips with programming and developing for it – we will begin to see greater things.

    I mean Killzone 2 online ?? IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY!!!

    not to mention the offline and other the other banging titles?

    I havent played on the wii since going thru my early games like Manhunt 2 and red steel – 360 havent used it since i clocked gears 2 – kinda bored with it – so my money and focus is on the ps3 – i have spent and traded loads for so many cracking games and the more i get the more i am like ‘what the hell – how come i am a full on gamer and i didnt know about this?’

    everytime i turn the ps3 on i discover a new trick – its as amazing as a true summer saturday in a beer garden with your chums after months of gloom and winter – thats the only way i ca n describe it – its that good and then some

    This result is probably because nearly every everyone in Japan has bought a Wii and there’s not as many people to sell Wii too. There’s still plenty of people without a PS3.

    Out of interest, why haven’t you mentioned that the 360 also outsold the wii for the second week in a row.
    In adition, a decent jounro may have noted the sales jump between last week and this weeks PS3 sales (Last week sony finished in 3rd place in hardware sales….below the wii, and 10,000 consoles below the 360)
    An even better Journo may have noted that last week the 360 launched Star Ocean exclusively and sold 25,000 consoles. While sony’s ps3 exclusive Yakuza 3 gave sony console sales of 35,000. Does this mean that Yakuza 3 is the more popular game and a better “system seller”. Who knows. But i think these comparissons is what readers will want to see. Not just the copy and pasting of weekly figures.

    The xbox 360 is mopping the floor with the PS3 and Wii considering ever exclusive for the PS3 is heading towards the 360 should I go all the way back to rockstar games for you to get it throw your skull that if Microsoft wants you to have the best on-line they give it to you if they want you to have the best games they give you those also if they want to give you respect they make it happen. BEWARE! lol….

    Microsoft will consume the gaming market along with the OS Software of Win7. BEWARE!

    wtf are you talking about? what major ps3 exclusives are coming to 360? blublaze? never even heard this game. And the 360 is mopping the Wii? the Wii and PS3 came a year after the 360 and the Wii has managed to sell over a 500 thousand units a month since its release and the PS3 is only 6 million units behind the 360 and thats with the 360′s head start. This very article where you are posting is about the PS3 selling more hardware in japan then the 360 or wii. you effing xbots are full of lies and self delusion. fuckin idiots.
