Xbox 360 with Red Ring of Death: Get your own shipping box

It has been revealed that Microsoft are now telling owners with broken Xbox 360 consoles that they will have to provide their own shipping box from now on, which is sure to anger owners even further given that it is due to hardware failure in most cases.

As the Consumerist reports, one unlucky fellow encountered this very problem when he found out his Xbox console had recieved the infamous ‘red rings of death’ for the second time.

We think Microsoft may come in for a fair amount of criticism for this, if this appears to be true considering the inconvenience of it all. Let us know what you think about this story.

I have found that i have had to send my box box about 5 times and everytime i have had to provide the box for shiping, i just thought this was normal. The bonus of having my box break 5 times is that i have had about 18 months of free xbox live due to them apologizeing and giving me a card for a few free months :)

Well if they operated more efficiently this wouldnt be an issue:

My xbox broke 3weeks ago. I rang up and asked for an email label (as i already had a shipping box from the first time my xbox broke). However instead of a label email, i got a shipping email from UPS. An empty shipping box had been sent from Germany to Ireland.

I had asked for an email label because i was going away skiing. So away I went, and when i arrived home, the label that was on the empty box was no longer valid.

So i rang up again asking for an email label, making it quite clear what went wrong last time, and got an email…..with a tracking number again! They had sent ANOTHER empty shipping box from Germany to me.

So i rang a third time. Finally got an email label. Rang UPS for a pick-up. When the guy arrived he was like “is this another f’ing xbox?I feel like all im doing these days is driving these around”!So i told him not to bother delivering the second empty shipping box that was on its way to me.

To be fair though - from pick-up of my xbox, repair, and delivery, that time was v fast. Two weeks total - its arriving home today :-)

So anyway, i have three shipping boxes if anyone needs them!

Actually, that would be great. My elite recently got the red ring and would really appreciate a box if your being serious. My email is Nmccai1@tigers.lsu.edu. Thanks
