Digital Distribution will take over ‘within the next two years’
By: Alan Ng | March 4, 2009 | 1 CommentAs most of us are aware, digital distribution is becoming more and more of a common thing not just in the games industry but in the whole media industry combined. Today, GamersGate CEO Theodore Bergquist has stated that he thinks digital distribution will take more of a prominent role within the next two years.
In an interview with GI.Biz, Bergquist explained his views and even had some evidence to back it all up. He said that the current PC-platform download service saw an 100 percent increase in 2008 and expected a 200 percent increase this year.
His company, GamersGate has over 1000 titles in its catalogue and they share key roles with partners such as EA and Microsoft.
He added, “When I talk to all the publishers – both small, and really, really, big – digital distribution is on everyone’s lips. Whether it’ll happen this year or next, I’m not sure – but I think it’s that kind of time frame we’re talking about.”
