2009: Sharpest decline in world computer sales ever

PC sales have been slowly declining but have managed to whether the storm, but now PC sales are set to see its sharpest decline in history. The current financial market is in a mess, and the current financial uncertainty has forced customers to hold off on purchasing a new PC and keeping the one that they have a little longer.
The research firm Gartner Inc. has said that PC shipments will hit 257 million units this year, which will be a drop of 11.9 percent from 2008 sales figures. This drop in sales will be four times as big as the drop that was experienced back in 2001, when they fell 3.2 percent.
Emerging markets has been helping PC sales, but that has now slowed by 11.1 percent. Mature markets have been hit hard, hitting minus 7.9 percent, the lowest growth since 2001. Gartner Inc. believes that emerging markets will post a fall of 10.4 percent in PC sales.
