A report has been conducted on mobile application sales, and there is no surprise that the Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL), iPhone App Store has been ranked miles ahead of its competition. The App Store is the leading software marketplace, but how long will it be there as the Store Wars has now started.
The App Store was compared to Google’s Android Marketplace in the report, as well as, RIM’s BlackBerry Apps Storefront, Nokia’s Ovi Apps Store for Symbian, Microsoft SkyMarket for Windows Mobile, and Palm’s webOS Software Store that has been put in place ready for the upcoming Pre Smartphone.
Software stores that run under third parties were included in the report. The report also excluded mobile providers who have their own software stores, such as Verizon Wireless’ Media Center, which was formerly, Get it Now.
