Mike Hickey, from Janco Partners has said today that Sony are planning to make an announcement ‘in the next few days’ on the subject of a Playstation 3 price cut. Hickey had said in a recent note to investors that Sony needs to slash 100 USD off the current asking price.
He explained that failure to make a price cut soon could result in publishers and developers deciding to move resources away from PlayStation 3 development. He also introduced ideas of a Playstation 3 unit without a Blu-ray drive, although we are not sure how this would work, considering all of the PS3 software titles use Blu-Ray format.
As reported from GamesIndustry.biz, Mike Hickey stated: “We think the company needs to reduce the current price by USD 100 to effectively restart unit velocity at retail. We believe the market is expecting a PS3 price cut in April or by June at the latest. We are also hearing continued speculation that Sony is working on a non-Blu-ray PS3 console, which could enable them to make the aforementioned hardware price reduction.”
Let us know what you think about these latest comments from Mr Hickey. Do you think Sony needs to introduce a price cut soon?
