On Friday, February 20, a panel of three judges from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in California has now said that it is ok for minors to purchase violent video games. The judges involved threw out psychology research, which had recently been allowed in the lower courts.
One of the judges said in their ruling, that research shows that there is no link to minors playing violent video games and actual psychological or neurological harm. The judge also added that inferences to that effect are not reasonable.
The law was passed in California buy Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger back in 2005, but it never took effect, as it was challenged by the gaming industry not long after. There are those who now worry that if these gaming restrictions were passed, then it would open the doors for minors to access other material that has not been available to them in the past.
