Chris Lewis, who is the VP for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business in the EMEA region has stated that it is very clear to see at the moment that the Xbox 360 is clearly leading in sales over the Sony PS3 in Europe.
He pointed to third party sales for evidence of his claims and was keen to state the figures in light of any confusion over console sales in the region.
When speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, he said that If you look right across my area of responsibility, every data point that I’ve got, which I trust - and data points we’ve always used - put us approximately 1 million units ahead in the aggregate.”

I love these articles that basically headline “Here’s a bit of positive spin for the Xbox by someone from Microsoft”. I’m not saying this isn’t true, but what is he going to say? “It looks like we’re neck and neck and losing ground, the PS3 is clearly the console of choice in the EU region and we may as well concide defeat now” - is that going to happen before hell freezes over? No it won’t, hence these articles become irrelevant. I’m sure Sony trust their sources that tell them a different story.
I’m still never clear who compares what with what, is it EMEA or the Continent of Europe or the members of the European Union or does it include Australia, is it based on wholesale shipments or retail purchases etc. etc. etc. I’m sure Microsoft pick the best number for them and the worst for Sony, and Sony do the opposite.
But the point remains, even with maximum Microsoft spin applied, to only be leading by 1 Million units when your console had a full 16 Month head start in the race and is substantially cheaper as an initial purchase is not the best result in the World. It’s hardly something they should be bragging about…
PS3Owner, or perhaps your name should be PS3FANBOY. Get over it. The PS3 is losing ground to the Xbox. Just keep telling yourself that your overpriced “game” console (which, by the way, has no games) is a justified purchase. The rest of the world will continue to buy the best games console more often. That is the reality. Wake up.
XBOX360 distribution will always lead ps3 since, for every console they sell, they will distribute/sell 5 replacement consoles throughout its lifetime.

Yh, thats why PS3 and 360 have a 6million gap worldwide, PS3 is ahead in Japan 24/7 and only microsoft say stuff like this. Its all because 360 is doing so much better. You don’t suppose that microsoft are doing this because they know they aren’t doing aswell and it looks like they’re losing their european audience. About 90% of the people in my college who own a 360 plan to switch to PS3 in the next few months. 360 is outdated.
the truth is that the PS3 had sold MORE units in Europe until the end of Nov last year when M$ started giving the console away in boxes of cereal. as of last week the 360 had sold 8.6Mil and the PS3 had sold 8.2Mil in Europe.
@ Gamer - maybe you should change your name to 360GamerFanboy!
the PS3 has just as many games as the 360 and just as many exclusive titles these days. plus it is MORE than just a games console, which is why we buy them, stick with your games console and i’ll stick with my multimedia center, shit, you mugs can’t even surf the web on your consoles! -heh-
if you take into account the 360s 30% fail rate and ALL the replacements they’ve had to send out due to RROD then there are only 18.8Mil units in homes compared to 20.3Mil PS3s worldwide! thats the FACTS! 360 has lost, deal with it. That is the reality. Wake up.
