Nintendo Wii to outsell Sony PS2: PS3 sales as poor as GameCube
Filed under: Gaming

We all know how quick things can turn around in the gaming world, and that is evident with Nintendo and Sony. Nintendo used to have the worst selling console on the market with the GameCube and Sony had the best, the PS2. Times have now reversed, Nintendo now have the best selling console on the market with the Wii, while Sony has the worst selling, the PS3.
If the Nintendo Wii keeps selling the kind of numbers that is has, then we could see it outselling the best ever games console, the Sonly PlayStation 2. The PS2 has sold more than 50 million units in the U.S. and 140 million worldwide, going on the current figures Nintendo expects to sell 55 million Wii consoles in the U.S. by 2014 and 154 million worldwide.
It is great news to see Nintendo turn around their fortunes, but it is not just the Wii that is doing well for them, Nintendo also have the best selling handheld console, the DS. This is a very different story for Sony; the once king of the games consoles has not done a good job with this generation. There is no denying that the Sony PlayStation 3 is a great console, but it is the price that lets it down. There is one thing that Sony has on their side with the PS3; it will have a greater shelf life than the Wii.

Are you sure about the greater shelf life. I think if it has a greater shelf life than the wii then they are really in trouble. If we get a HD wii and a xbox 720 that has some great way of making 360 games better, then sony are buggered, but I suppose it can’t really get much worse for then apart from pulling the PS3 and leaving the gaming market.
Personally I don’t care how well the PS3 is selling as I’m very happy with my machine and if the games don’t come out for it I’ll buy them on the 360. The PS3 is still a boys toy for those who can afford it. By this I mean men in their late 20s, early 30s with no dependents, not wealthy people, and sales will be slow until the price drops below £199 and parents can afford to buy for their kids and students can afford to part with some of their student loans on one.
The PS3 sales are not as bad as the gamecube. Where did you get that info from?
They pluck it of they’re a$$es – didn’t you know?
Please excuse my poor, almost nonsensical post. What I meant to say is they pluck it straight out of their behind. You gotta give them something, at least it’s not all PS3 fanboy bull.
@ Chris
I don’t know if you heard the news last week, but the 360 and Wii will not be releasing a console anytime in the near future. Reason you ask? Because of the PS3’s shelf life. Basically if the 360 and Wii would release a new console they would have to be better than the PS3 AND cheaper. That my friend, is a tough task. Microsoft wants to ride the 360 gravy train as long as they can. I think it would be suicide to leave this console generation when Sony already has a bad name.
“The PS3 sales are not as bad as the gamecube. Where did you get that info from?”
The GameCube sold 22 million consoles worldwide. Ps3 isn’t there yet. Nice try.
@Mark
haha, the gamecube sold 22 million in over 5 years. The PS3 sold 20 million in 2 years. Nice try to you. Maybe you should go back to elementary math and do some averaging calculations.
Yes “me”, perhaps I should go back and take math … just as you should probably learn to read.
I simply disputed the claim that the GameCube sold worse than the PS3. So far the PS3 has not eclipsed the GameCube.
